一、留意一词多性
前面第三讲中提到过,进行选项归类时要注意一词多性,有些单词既是名词又是动词,有些单词即是形容词又是名词,而有些分词也可以充当形容词,备选项中的这种一词多性的现象无形中扩大了考生的选择范围,经常会干扰考生的正确选择。
【例】【原文】
Decades ago, there were only a 55 number of drugs available, and many of them caused significant side effects in older people, including dizziness and fatigue. 【选项】
significant magnificent
limited
【解析】选。分析句子结构可知,所填词应为形容词,修饰number。如果不了解limited的形容词用法而将其归到动词的过去分词一类的话,将很难做对本题。
二、留意一词多义
篇章词汇题的备选项中有很多单词都是一词多义,而且经常是考查单词的某个不太常用的词义,因此考生在根据词义排除选项时不可过于匆忙,要对该选项的含义进行全面考虑。

Given the chance to demonstrate his ability, he regained confidence and began to succeed in school.
