  高考英语二轮九十天强化训练:阅读理解1

  阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)

  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

  A

I was doing some Christmas shopping in a toy store and decided to look at Barbie dolls for my nieces. A nicely dressed little girl was excitedly looking through the Barbie dolls as well. As she was looking, a little boy came to the Pokemon toys. He was dressed neatly, but his clothes were obviously old. He was with his father as well, and kept picking up the Pokemon video toys. Each time he picked one up and looked at his father, his father shook his head and said, “No.”

The little girl had chosen her Barbie. However, she stopped and was watching them. Rather dejectedly, the boy had to give up the Pokemon toys and choose something else. The little girl put her Barbie back on the shelf, and ran over to the Pokemon toys. She excitedly picked up one and raced towards the checkout. I picked up my purchases and got in line behind them. Then, much to the little girl’s delight, the little boy and his father got in line behind me. After the toy was paid for and bagged, the little girl handed it back to the cashier (收银员) and whispered something in her ear. The casher smiled and put the package under the counter.

I paid for my purchases and was rearranging things when the little boy came up to the cashier. The cashier checked his purchases and said, “Congratulations, you are my hundredth customer today, and you win a prize!” With that, she handed the little boy the Pokemon toys, and he could only stare in surprise. It was exactly what he had wanted!

The little girl and her father had been standing at the doorway during all of this. Then they walked out. As I walked back to my car, I heard the father ask his daughter why she had done that. I’ll never forget what she said to him. “Daddy, didn’t Grandparents want me to buy something that would make me happy?” He said, “Of course they did, honey.” To which the little girl replied, “Well, I just did!”

I feel very shocked to have witnessed the true spirit of Christmas in that toy store, in the form of a little girl who understands more about the meaning of this festival than most adults I know.

From school to band Practice, the Venturi Eclectic is an Earth-friendly way to get where you want to go. This battery-powered, zero-emission (meaning it doesn't pollute the air) vehicle runs mainly on renewable energy. Solar panels on the Eclectic's roof absorb sun rays when you're driving. On windy days, you can connect a machine to the car's roof that collects energy from the wind while you're parked. The Eclectic's top speed is 28 miles an hour; the battery lasts for 31 miles before it needs to be recharged. Zipping (迅速行进) around the neighborhood has never been better.

Here's an eco-friendly way to tell time: Simply fill the Bedol Water-powered Clock's tank (箱) with water, add some lemon juice, and the clock will display the time without the need for environmentally harmful batteries. There are two sets of metal electrodes (电极) inside the water tank. Water contains ions (离子) that carry negative and positive charges. These ions complete a charge between the electrodes, creating enough energy to power the clock. Just refill the tank every few weeks, and this clock will keep on ticking.

Bloodhound SuperSonic Car (SSC) will be the first car to attempt to break the l,000-mile-an-hour barrier. (The current record is 763 miles an hour.) A concept for now, the rocket-shaped car gets its original push to 350 miles an hour from a jet engine. Then a rocket fires up, pushing the SSC past 1,000 miles an hour. In order to keep the car streamlined (流线型的), the driver lies back at a 45-degree angle (角度).

You’re having a blast at your friend’s birthday party. But when it's time to bring out the cake, everyone crowds around, blocking your view. No worries. Throw the Triops into the air, and this clever camera captures the view from above. The Triops can take three pictures at once, each from different angles. You can also record sounds and command the Triops to start shooting whenever it hears that noise. That's one smart camera.

What is the common characteristic of the Venturi Eclectic and the Bedol Water-powered Clock?

  A. They don't need batteries. B. They are difficult to operate.

  C. They can be powered by water. D. They are environmentally friendly.

According to the passage, the Venturi Eclectic

  .

  A. is popular with businessmen B. is suitable for a long trip

  C. can turn wind into energy D. has only a little gas emission

The underlined phrase “having a blast” in the last paragraph probably means

  .

  A. looking at a picture

  B. enjoying yourself

  C. blowing out a candle D. recording sounds

Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

  A. The Triops is sensitive to sounds.

  B. The driver of the SSC must be of great size.

  C. The color of the Bedol Water-powered Clock is like that of lemon.

  D. The SSC doesn’t have anything to do with a rocket actually.

Heading off to college this year? Here are some fashion tips from our experts you should keep in mind:

Dress to impress: Stylist and business consultant Daniela Smith says, "Girls should keep in mind that your college professors will often be the bridge that connects you to your future career and your classmates will become your professional network. You don't need to dress like you're going to the office, but you should display an ability to properly present yourself with appropriate, maturity and confidence, and look put together."

Logo mania(品牌狂热症): Wearing the logos of brands aimed at younger customers physically identifies you as part of that age group, so consider the targeted age group of the stores you shop at. It's tempting to load up on logos, especially well-known logos that signify high-end brands. But consider this: college is a time of self-discovery, a chance to develop your own personal style. Instead of wearing logos head to toe, "walking advertisement"-style, why not express who you really are?

Wear real pants! The combination of leggings and baggy shirts is all too common on college campuses. Smith points out that leggings, yoga pants, and sweat pants are entirely unacceptable in public unless you're exercising. Although leggings worn as pants are a common trend among high school and college girls, they are not an appropriate choice for day wear. As a young woman, your style choice should begin to reflect your maturity level. So, get rid of leggings and wear real pants!

Keep the cute factor to a minimum: Stay away from sweaters and T-shirts with smiling animals, cartoon characters, or Hello Kitty on them. Sure, kittens might be cute, but they're not doing you any favors in the style department. Dressing too cutest can take years off your look, and not necessarily in a good way!

  60. The second paragraph indicates the importance of

  .

  A. impressing professors

  B. getting on well with classmates

  C. creating a professional image

  D. dressing appropriately

  61. The author believes that college girls should

  .

  A. choose a logo that suits their age

  B. try to load up on well-known logos

  C. use logos to show who they are

  D. find their identity by trying different logos

  62. The author recommends wearing real pants because

  .

  A. leggings and baggy shirts are too common

  B. yoga pants and sweatpants are not as comfortable

  C. real pants can present you with appropriate maturity

  D. people like real pants better than the other pants

  63. What's the writer's attitude towards sweaters with animals on them?

  A. They make people look lovely.

  B. They are very fashionable these days.

  C. They will show you're an animal lover.

  D. They are not suitable for college-aged students.

The following are the results of the tests done by “Family and Home Magazine” on some Pocket Tape-Recorders on the market now.

  Pearlcorder S702 $64

This simple model at the bottom of the Olympus range scored the most points for its excellent quality of recording. Background noise hardly affects the sound and recording from a pocket is perfectly possible, but it doesn’t turn off automatically.

Tape length: 30minutes per side. Weight: 240g.

  Sony M9

  $49.95

Small and very good looking, Sony’s latest offering scored most for its appearance. Sounds clear, but there is slight machine noise. The big control buttons are a great improvement on some of the complicated little controls on other tape-recorders. It doesn’t switch off automatically, but a red light shows if the machine is still running.

Tape length: 60minutes per side. Weight: 195g.

  Sony M400

  $115

Lots of little control buttons that make a noise are difficult to use. Recording is good but machine noise loses points. Tape counter and automatic switch-off when tape has finished recording or rewinding are useful.

Tape length: 60 minutes per side. Weight: 230g.

  Imperial OEM MC7 $ 29.95

Cheap and simple compared with the rest, but recording is good as long as there is no background noise. Use only its own-make of cassette. No light to show it is on; no fast-forward button and the record button makes a loud noise.

Tape length: 30 minutes per side. Weight: 285g.

  Philips 585 $80

Handsome and simple to use, but recording is very poor at more than the recommended distance of 5 cm-designed for dictation. No recording light.

Tape length: 15 minutes per side. Weight: 220g.

  60. The machine that produces the best recording with the least unwanted noise is _____.

  A. Pearlcorder S 702

  B. Sony M9

  C. Sony M400

  D. Imperial OEM MC7

  61. If you want a machine which turns off automatically and weighs very little you should choose _____.

  A. Pearlcorder S 702

  B. Sony M9

  C. Sony M400

  D. Philips 585

  A. Philips 585

  B. Imperial OEM MC7
