BUDAPEST, Sept. 15 -- The United States became the biggest winner as the first World Urban Games Budapest 2024 closed here on Sunday after three days' competition.
Medals in BMX freestyle and 3x3 basketball on Sunday ensured that the United States ended the Games top of the standings, with three gold, two silver and two bronze.
In the BMX freestyle, US rider Hannah Roberts scored 93 points on her first run to secure gold. With her podium place already secure, the 17-year-old used her second run as a victory lap to wow the crowd with a number of gravity-defying tricks.
Japan's Minato Oike and Liszurley Villegas of Colombia finished second and third respectively.
The last medal event on the BMX and Roller Freestyle Park was the men's BMX freestyle, which was won by Australian Brandon Loupos with 94.10 points. His compatriot Logan Martin won silver on 93.40 and American Justin Dowell took bronze on 93.20.
Evguenii Aroian took gold in the men's parkour freestyle event after a higher execution score proved to be the difference between the Russian and Krystian Kowalewski of Poland. Both men scored 25.00 on their runs, but Aroian's superior execution was enough to land gold. Greece's Dimitris Kyrsanidis (24.00) finished third.
Spain's Steffany Navarro denied Aleksandra Shevchenko of Russia a World Urban Games double gold as a time of 14.54 seconds ensured Navarro top spot in the women's parkour speed event. Shevchenko, who won the freestyle competition on Saturday, had to settle for silver in 15.73 seconds.
Stephania Zitis of Australia finished with bronze in 15.74 seconds.
In the 3x3 basketball, the last event of the 2024 World Urban Games, France beat Russia 21-13 in the men's final to take gold. The same teams also met in the women's final, with Russia coming out on top 17-13. Ukraine claimed bronze in the men's event, while China finished third in the women's competition to secure their only medal at this Games.
