WARSAW, Oct. 5 -- Wilfredo Leon led Poland to a four-set victory over Argentina at FIVB Men's World Cup on Saturday as Vital Heynen's side beat its South American opponent 27-29, 25-17, 25-18, 26-24.
The Cuban-born Leon, who joined the Polish team in July, scored a match-high 20 points. Bartosz Kwolek added 13 points, while Agustin Loser scored 20 points for Argentina.
Argentina went into the game with good form, winning a thrilling opening set, but the Polish players adjusted themselves just in time taking three straight sets to claim a fully deserved win.
"We owe the victory to our setter Fabian Drzyzga. He did a great job. We played a good game. It was a hard match, but the result was fine for us. We had to give more than 100 per cent to win today," said the Polish attacker Bartosz Kurek.
"Poland is an excellent team that play at a high level. We worked hard, as we must try to improve. I hope my players will grow game by game," said Argentina coach Marcelo Mendez.
Poland ranks second with nine points, three points behind leader Brazil. Argentina is sixth with six points.
