Step2. Warming – up & Revision

Tell the students that today we’ll learn the simple present tense.
Tell the students that we use the simple present tense when we talk about things that are true now. eg, Amy’s hair is short.
Tell the students that we use the simple present tense when we talk about things that we do regularly. eg, He plays football after school.
Present a picture of a fish tank with some gold fish in it and say: Look! There are some fish in the tank. Fish live in water.
Write the underlined sentence above on the blackboard.
Explain to the students that we use the simple present tense when we talk about things that are always true . eg, Fish live in water.
Step 4. Practice
1.Read the sentences about pictures on P12 in the book.
2.Show some sentences on the screen .Then ask the students to read them and understand the three usages of the simple present tense. And let the students determine what kind of usage these sentences belong to.
Step 5. Practice
Learn how to make positive and negative sentences using the verb ‘to be’ in the simple present tense.
Read the sentences in the table on P12. Explain that we use ‘am’ when the subject is ‘I’. We use ‘are’ when the subject is ‘we’, ‘you’ or ‘they’. We use ‘is’ when the subject is ‘he’, ‘she’ or ‘it’. Learn the negative forms of the verb ‘ to be’ in simple present tense like this: I am not / I’m not. We/You/They are not /aren’t. He/She/It is not / isn’t.
Learn how to ask and answer questions using the verb ‘to be’ in the simple present tense.
Step6. Practice
Do the exercise in Part A on P13. Check the answers with the class.
Ask the students to read the dialogue.
Explain some key phrases such as our Maths teacher, in the English Club, be good at.
Step7.Practice
Students make up their own sentences by using the verb ‘ to be’.
Complete the exercise on the screen (Fill in the blanks with the right forms of ‘ be’.)
