  A

  The Minions

These yellow creatures become a big hit for their cuteness of loving bananas, nonsense words and silly movements. When you watched Despicable Me (2010), did you predict the Minions would later become the main attraction? From background characters and then main characters, their success proves good animated creations can take on a life of their own spin-offs(续集)

  The penguins

The penguins were originally just sidekicks in Madagascar(2005). But in 2008 they took leading roles in their own TV series, and in 2024 starred in the film Penguins of Madagascar. The penguins’ wit, sarcasm and crafty composure not only adds attraction to the kid-friendly franchise, but also serves adult audiences well. So it's not surprising that they got their own movie.

  Scrat

A small and furry squirrel with a long tail from animated movie Ice Age(2002), Scrat has won people’s hearts with its persistence in acorns. It is a big part of its(Ice Age’s) enduring appeal. He demands a lot of nuts, but he is a superstar, and he does his own stunts. Scrat now has his own animated shorts, extended scenes and mini-movies.

  Puss in Boots

Originally a fairy tale written by French author Charles Perraut, Puss in Boots features a cat that helps his low-born master gain wealth and power through trickery. The cat later appeared in the Shrek franchise. In 2011, he had his own movie fittingly titled Puss in Boots.

  21. According to the text, an adult is more likely to enjoy the character ______.

  A. the Minions

  B. the Penguins

  C. Scrat

  A. assistants

  B. leading player

  C. standers-by

  D. minor roles

The penguins were originally just sidekicks in Madagascar(2005). But in 2008 they took leading roles in their own TV series, and in 2024 starred in the film Penguins of Madagascar.可知the penguins在Penguins of Madagascar中是主角,第二句中的but表示转折关系,说明第一句中在2005年in Madagascar中担任的是配角。

  23. What do the four characters have in common?

  A. They have contributed most to the success of their original films.

  B. They have proved that the audience usually favor cute animals

  C. They have completely stolen the show with their own series.

Kids love the all-knowing Google. Your kids likely use Google to help them find everything from information for homework assignments, to funny cat videos, and everything in between. Sometimes kids can take a "wrong turn" on Google and end up in a dark part of the Internet where they shouldn't be. Thankfully, Google has some parental control features that parents can implement to at least help reduce the volume(量) of crap(废物) that ends up in search results, which can enable you to help keep your curious kids from ending up on the wrong side of the tracks.

What is Google SafeSearch? Google SafeSearch is one of the primary parental control options offered by Google to help parents police search results. SafeSearch helps to filter explicit(明确的)content out of search results. It is mainly designed to target sexually explicit material (images and videos) and not violent content.

How to Enable Google SafeSearch?1. From the "Search Settings" preferences page, place a check in the box with the label "Filter explicit results". 2. To lock this setting so that your child can't change it, click the "Lock SafeSearch" link. If you are not already logged into your Google account, you will need to do so in order to lock SafeSearch to the "on" position.

Enable SafeSearch on Mobile Devices. In addition to your computer, you will probably also want to enable SafeSearch on any mobile device that your child uses regularly. For instructions on how to enable SafeSearch on a variety of mobile devices, check out Google's SafeSearch Mobile support page.

As we all know, kids are going to be kids and try to test their boundaries. We put up one roadblock and they go around it. It's a constant cat and mouse game and there will always be some internet door that we as parents forget to lock, and that will be the one that the kids get through, but we do the best we can.

  24. Which of the following are kids NOT likely to use Google to do?

To find information for homework assignments.

To find everything except information and funny cat videos.

To find funny cat videos on the Internet.

To find everything between information and funny cat videos.

Your kids likely use Google to help them find everything from information for homework assignments, to funny cat videos, and everything in between.

  25. What does the underlined “options” in Paragraph 2 mean?

  Judgments

  B. Uses

  C.

  Functions

  D. Choices

  26. What’s the first thing you’d do before setting Google SafeSearch?

Sign up and log into your Google account.

find the “Search Settings” preferences page.

Find the label “ Filter explicit results”.

  Click the “Lock SafeSearch” link.

If you are not already logged into your Google account, you will need to do so in order to lock SafeSearch to the "on" position. 故A正确。

  27. How do you enable SafeSearch on Mobile devices?

  A. Read the instructions of the related mobile devices directly.

  B. Look for some Internet door to be sure we parents did not forget to lock it.

  C. Check out Google’s SafeSearch Mobile support page for instructions.

  D. Check in the box with the label any mobile devices.

For instructions on how to enable SafeSearch on a variety of mobile devices, check out Google's SafeSearch Mobile support page.

  C

A team of engineers at Harvard University has been inspired by Nature to create the first robotic fly. The mechanical fly has become a platform for a series of new high-tech integrated systems. Designed to do what a fly does naturally, the tiny machine is the size of a fat housefly. Its mini wings allow it to stay in the air and perform controlled flight tasks.

“It’s extremely important for us to think about this as a whole system and not just the sum of a bunch of individual components (元件),” said Robert Wood, the Harvard engineering professor who has been working on the robotic fly project for over a decade. A few years ago, his team got the go-ahead to start piecing together the components. “The added difficulty with a project like this is that actually none of those components are off the shelf and so we have to develop them all on our own,” he said.

They engineered a series of systems to start and drive the robotic fly. “The seemingly simple system which just moves the wings has a number of interdependencies on the individual components, each of which individually has to perform well, but then has to be matched well to everything it’s connected to,” said Wood. The flight device was built into a set of power, computation, sensing and control systems. Wood says the success of the project proves that the flying robot with these tiny components can be built and manufactured.

While this first robotic flyer is linked to a small, off-board power source, the goal is eventually to equip it with a built-in power source, so that it might someday perform data-gathering work at rescue sites, in farmers’ fields or on the battlefield. “Basically it should be able to take off, land and fly around,” he said.

Wood says the design offers a new way to study flight mechanics and control at insect-scale. Yet, the power, sensing and computation technologies on board could have much broader applications. “You can start thinking about using them to answer open scientific questions, you know, to study biology in ways that would be difficult with the animals, but using these robots instead,” he said. “So there are a lot of technologies and open interesting scientific questions that are really what drives us on a day to day basis.”

  28. The difficulty the team of engineers met with while making the robotic fly was that __________.
