An Australian company, Smart Car Technologies, has developed a system that lets drivers know when they're
speeding. When the technology becomes commercially
available, it could help leadfooted_drivers avoid tickets and
also save lives. The company that developed the product hopes
to convince Australian government agencies to put the
technology into use in their automobile fleets (车队).
The product,
called Speed Alert,
links realtime location
data and speed obtained with the help of GPS to a database of
posted speed limits stored in a driver's PDA or programmable
mobile phone. The setup of the product does not need to be
hooked up to a car's speedometer (速度计).
In fact,
it is
entirely portable. It will also work with newer phones and
PDAs that have builtin GPS receivers. If a driver exceeds (超过)
the speed limit,
the speed is shown and an alert sounds.
Michael Paine,
an Australian vehicle design engineer and
traffic safety consultant, was hired to analyze the product. He
told Live Science that his colleagues in the road safety field are
“very enthusiastic” about what they're now calling
“an
intelligent speed alert”.
Other research, according to Paine,
shows that 40 percent of all traffic deaths involve speeding.
There is also a potentially controversial future use.
“Since the
system is so portable, it would be easy to make it a requirement for teenage drivers to always use a speed alert device when driving,” Paine said.
“The system even has the capability to record speeding violations, so parents can
monitor their teenage drivers.”
1.What's the purpose of the new product?
A.To inform us of the new car system.
B.To introduce some improvements in cars.
C.To popularize the builtin car system.
D.To limit certain drivers to safe driving.
根据第一段中的“An Australian company, Smart Car Technologies, has developed a system that lets drivers know when they're speeding. When the technology becomes commercially available, it could help leadfooted drivers avoid tickets and also save lives”并结合第二段的内容可知,使用该新产品的目的是限制一些司机开车超速,使他们在安全速度内驾驶,故选D项。
2.Leadfooted drivers refer to the ones________.
A.who drive too carelessly
B.who drive over the speed limit
C.who are partly disabled
D.who drive too slowly
根据第一段的第二句“When the technology becomes commercially available, it could help leadfooted drivers avoid tickets and also save lives”可推知,leadfooted drivers指开车超速的司机,故选B项。
3.The second paragraph mainly talks about________.
A.the project of the builtin product
B.how the product is programmed
C.the functions of GPS in cars
D.why the system becomes popular
4.What can be the best title of the passage?
A.A New Incar Device Against Speeding
B.Progress in Carmaking Science
C.Warning for Adventurous Drivers
D.A Speed Alert and Its Future Use
1.commercially adv. 商业上
2.convince vt.
3.obtain vt.
4.analyze vt. 分析

原文:Since the
system is so portable, it would be easy to make it a requirement for teenage drivers to always use a speed alert device when driving.(it的用法)

When Sabrina Vega was 5 years old, a friend invited her
to a party held at a gym where Sabrina discovered that she
loved doing gymnastics.
A few nights after the party, Sabrina had a dream. She
told her mother, Jahira, about the dream. Jahira said, “Sabrina said that in her dream she went to the Olympics. She describedeverything at this international competition. At first I did not take her story seriously.”
But Sabrina kept talking about her dream. She told it to
her father, David. So Jahira and David decided to pay for Sabrina to learn gymnastics. So Sabrina started to train at a special and competitive gym. Though only 7 years old, she was already training to compete at a high level. The years passed quickly. Sabrina got better and better. By the time she was 12 years old, Sabrina was training so many hours each day that she did not have time to do things that many other Americans of the same age did.
When Sabrina was 13, she had a chance to compete in a
national gymnastics event. If she did well, the event would
give her the chance to join the national team-the team that
trains for the Olympics.
But the family was out of money. Jahira had to tell
Sabrina that she could not go.
Jahira said, “Tears came to her
eyes, and she said,
‘I understand.’”
A week or two later, a rich family came to visit Sabrina's
gym unexpectedly. They watched Sabrina train. Then they
asked to talk to her mother. The rich family offered Jahira all
the money they needed!
Eventually,
Sabrina Vega competed at the 2024 Olympic
trials. She finished 10th in the all rounds.
5.Sabrina Vega had a dream to________.
A.go to the party
B.do gymnastics
C.take part in the Olympics
