In your spoken English class, your teacher shows you the
picture. You are asked to describe the picture and explain how you understand it.
In the picture a teenager with a heavy bag on his back is standing at a crossroad, with a puzzled look on his face.Next to him there are road signs pointing to different directions.
The picture obviously suggests that we live in an age of a great deal of information, and this can be confusing, especially for young people. Some of us lack the ability to filter out the useless information and select the information we need.Consequently, they become confused, just like the boy in the picture. But we need to be wary of all the information that comes our way.We also need to make our own choice about our development, rather than just assume what other people say is the correct choice.
In brief, the skill of sorting out the information received is important,so is the courage not to be too prone to assuming that someone else knows better. If we are to be successful in the future we will have to gain such skills.

1.________made matters worse was________their son’s disease was worsening.
A.It;that
B.That;that
C.What;why
D.What;that
2.________has been reported that genes might be responsible for whether a person is sociable or shy.
A.It
B.As
C.That
D.What
3.Due to the fact________there is plenty to see,it would be better if you made a list before hand of________exactly you want to go.
A.what;where
B.that;where
C.that;which
D.which;when
“________exactly you want to go”中缺少地点状语,即你准确地想去哪里,故应用where。因此选B。
4.This result shows that people prefer faces________
appear to like them and________attraction is not simply about physical beauty.
A.that;that
B.which;which
C.what;what
D.that;which
解析 第一空应填that, that appear to like them是定语从句修饰faces;第二空也应用that,引导show的第二个宾语从句,且不能省略。故选A。
5.The earth is suffering from shortage of resources, and that is________people are concerned.
A.what
B.where
C.how
D.that
